COUGAR STILL AT LARGE IN JUNEAU COUNTY
No cougar attacks have been reported as of Tuesday in the area, but the
animal has been sighted numerous times by residents near Elroy and
Mauston.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Juneau County Warden
Eric Grudzinski explained that officials have responded to all calls
coming into the Juneau County Sheriffs Department and will continue to
do so.
We are committed to tracking this animal and getting this one off the
landscape in Juneau County, he said.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has jurisdiction over
this endangered animal and has an agent who is working closely with
local officials.
Warden Grudzinski explained that the cougar is a very elusive animal and
poses many challenges for officials attempting to remove it. He also
said, that while officials hope to remove the animal before snow falls,
the winter season would provide a clearer view of where it is moving and
attacking. Read more details about the sightings in the August 19th
edition of the Messenger.
